Educating the Whole Child:
Mind, Body and Spirit.
Throughout the school from Kindergarten through 8th grade our students are using STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) to explore. As part of their exploration into STEM, Assumption School is taking the steps to further their experience. This does not mean that we are changing how and what we teach, but we are giving our students a newly remodeled room with new technology to explore further.
Our room will be removing some of the bookcases, but not all of the books. We will keep research books in the room and will be dispersing the novels throughout the building. The bank of computers will be replaced with laptops that will be housed here, but mobile if teachers choose to use them in the classrooms. We plan to keep a few of the computers from this lab to use in classrooms. They are coming to their end of life and we need to be cognizant of that also. We have 5 of the TRUTOUCH RS Interactive boards on order to put into classrooms. Our Smartboards will be repurposed in rooms that do not currently have a permanently hung SmartBoard. Tablets will be purchased for our students to use in the lab or classroom.
As you look at the bird’s eye view of the room, we will have 4 lab tables with stools, 2 shorter tables with pillow seats, a vibrant rug, two desks for individual work, a closet, and shelves upper (not shown) and lower, for housing our STEM/science supplies. This is the first phase of the room. In the future we will add a sink, refrigerator, and update the technology and infrastructure within the room and throughout the building. These yearly updates will be put in a plan that will be available late fall.
This room will be used for collaboration amongst our students and teachers. It is a great area to sit and be able to spread out and problem solve or research to find the answer to the problem. I am looking forward to using the room next year for not only STEM projects, but also for a computer lab.
