"I teach all subjects in Grade 2. My goal is to give them the gift of doing the work on their own and being able to critical think through a problem. Their self-esteem really grows in Grade 2."
Mrs. Beth Shuts Grade 2 Teacher
Roles at Assumption:
Grade 2 Teacher
Chess Club Advisor
Personal Education:
Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education, Fitchburg State College, Fitchburg, MA

Teaching Experience:
Before coming to Assumption School, Mrs. Beth Shuts worked in several of the toughest city schools where controling behavior problems was a focus ... which is why she appreciates just how special Assumption School is! She loves the respect given by both the children and the parents at Assumption making this her 18th year in our school family, and tells how rewarding and enlightening it is teaching second grade.
Mrs. Shuts has always worked with children beginning as a teen in a local parks department summer program in her hometown of Pittsfiled, Massachusetts and as a teacher since 1977. She's always loved discovering ways of learning, enjoying sharing ideas and excitement with the children.
Family and Interests: Favorite past-times of Mrs. Shuts include summers spent by the pool, swimming, and reading. With an active little Brittany Spaniel which she loves and two young grandsons "too cute for their own good," she really appreciates the maturity of her second graders.
"The most important lesson I have learned is you cannot teach any two children the same. Everyone is unique."
