The 3rd Quarter came and went in 5th Grade, but I am happy to say that we have completed so much. We heard back from the author, Lois Lowry, and not only did she send us a card, but she also signed one of our copies ofNumber the Stars. I am so proud of my students for sending her such amazing letters. In Language Arts, we are beginning Poetry Month, which will be a time to read and write all different kinds of poetry. In Social Studies, students are comparing their lives to those during Colonial America through Escape Rooms, Scavenger Hunts, and activities such as weaving bookmarks. To coincide with our Colonial Unit, students are reading The Witch of Blackbird Pondby Elizabeth George Speare in Reading, which tells the story of a young girl in Barbados who comes to live with her Puritan relatives in the Connecticut Colony. We have one more quarter left and I cannot wait to see what my students will accomplish!
