Grade 5 has been having a wonderful time since coming back from Christmas vacation. In Language Arts, the students are working hard with their Persuasive Writing Assignments, which was to write a letter to the author, Lois Lowry, and convince her to either write a sequel to Number the Stars or write another story about World War II if they were satisfied with the book’s ending! In Social Studies, we just finished discussing and reading about the Age of Exploration and have started reading about the famous colonies of Roanoke, Jamestown, and Plymouth. In Reading, we are making our way through Madeleine L’Engle’s book, A Wrinkle in Time, in which three children travel through time and space to find their missing father. To go along with the book, the students have created comic pages of their favorite scenes and completed activities that demonstrate space and time travel without a machine! I am very proud of my students!
