The winners of the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Contest at the school level are:
Declan ~ Fourth Grade
Ella ~ First Grade
Emma ~ Second Grade
Tessa ~ Third Grade
Ashley ~ Grade K
Morgan ~ Fifth Grade
The work of these students has now been sent to the Zaner-Bloser State-Level Competition.
Each year Assumption School students participate in the Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest with approximately 250,000 other participants. The contest requires outstanding manuscript (print) in grades K-2 and cursive skills among students in grades 3-8 and recognizes the teachers who understand the importance of handwriting in developing literacy in all students.
The contest offers an opportunity for each student to show his/her best handwriting in a grade-level appropriate competition with other students first within their own school, then on the state level, and finally on the national level. The contest entries, both manuscript (print) and cursive, are judged according to the Zaner-Bloser Keys to Legibility: Shape, Size, Spacing, and Slant.• The sentence all students are required to write on their entry form is chosen because it contains every letter of the alphabet:
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
Each child has a chance to compete for the honor of representing Assumption School as a School Grade-Level Winner. All students chosen as School Grade-Level Winners compete at the State Grade-Level with winners from each category (public and private) competing against each other to become one of the 18 National Grade-Level Semifinalists. The 18 National Grade-Level Semifinalists compete to be chosen as one of nine Grand National Grade-Level Champions. Each Grand National Champion earns a large trophy, a cash prize, and educational materials for his or her schools. In addition, each teacher of a Grand National Champion is awarded an Educator Prize Package including Zaner-Bloser classroom materials valued at $1,000.
Assumption School students took part in the 2020-2021 Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest. Congratulations to the Grade Level Winners:

People have been writing to communicate since ancient Sumerian times. Zaner-Bloser isn't quite that old, but their company's long history and distinguished legacy make us unique in the business, and they're something we're proud of. A lot has changed since our company was originally founded in 1888 by Charles Paxton Zaner of Columbus, Ohio, with his business partner, Elmer Ward Bloser. Back then, penmanship wasn't just a skill—it was a profession, and Charles Zaner's College of Penmanship was where you went to learn it.
Unlike other schools of penmanship, though, Zaner-Bloser didn't just teach how to write beautiful-looking letters. The school also taught academics as well, so graduating students were skilled penmen and good writers. Over the course of a century, Zaner-Bloser's programs for teaching handwriting have become the definitive methods used by generations of American children, and Zaner-Bloser has outlasted its competitors with proven, time-tested techniques.
