At the invitiation of Mrs. Bass, nutritionist and Assumption parent, Mrs. Michelle Champigny, met this quarter with the 3rd grade class to talk about healthy eating.
All components of a healthy diet were reviewed and how their plates should look - lots of color, including veggies, fruits, healthy carb choices and lean proteins also reminding them that we don't want to drink our calories.
They made a chart of all the colors they are already eating from each color of the rainbow. It was quite impressive! They talked about how each color lends different nutrients and protective properties.
Moving to another station, they were then able to demonstrate how to fill a well-balanced plate using a
My Plate model and food models.
Finally, our students did some taste testing of fruits and veggies in a different way - all these items were dried! They described what they were tasting and if they would eat them again.
Mrs. Champigny expressed that she always enjoys speaking to Mrs. Bass's class! The students loved her visit, all writing beautiful thank you notes afterwards.
